Problem re-installing windows media centre???

I've recently acquired a Yakumo computer which worked fine but I wanted a fresh start so re-installed window by booting from their recovery cd's...

All went fine as I've done this before on my main computer but when I eventually got into windows nothing would work.

e.g. I tried to intall my router but it wouldn't work as it said iexplorer was not up to date. It offered to rectify this problem by installing ie6 which I allowed it to do but it then told me I already had a newer version....??? Re-booted but the same occurred.

When I click start and scroll to iexplorer it is there but the icon along side it is one of those icons which appears when windows does not know what program to use to open it...

Help and Support won't open because it suggests the file does not exist, and to top it all when windows did come on, it looked like win 98 not XP with the grey taskbar...

Any suggestions would be much appreciated
