Showing ZIP files as Folders?

All of a sudden my ZIP files are not showing as Folders in Windows Explorer. I thought there was a switch in Folder Options but can't find it...

How do I turn this feature on / off??

TIA

What do they look like? Something newly installed or uninstalled may have changed the default program that opens them. Try changing the default program that they open with.

Sorry I wasn't more clear, sgtspector. They open fine. The problem is on the left side of Windows Explorer where the directory (folder) "tree" is. Explorer use to show all the ZIP files in a folder on the left, as if they were sub-folders, and also on the right as regular files. Now only "true" sub-folders are showing on the left and Not the ZIP files. The ZIP files still show correctly in the right Explorer window.

I misunderstood your post. Mainly because I don't use windows explorer normally. I "open" instead and get a different view. But I see what you mean. The zips on the left in the folder view is nice. I just single click on one and i see the contents on the right. Beats opening them to see inside. I am using winrar as the default for archives and they show up in the folder tree. I still think that something has changed regarding the default for opening the zips.

Did you try the "open with" option on the rt click menu? If it doesn't come up hold down the shift key and rt click. Then clcik on choose program. Select windows explorer from the list and click always us the program option. Sorry if this stuff is obvious just dont want to leave anything simple out of the equation. HTH

Zip files are not folders. (from tweakxp.com)

XP treats Zip files like folders, to stop this type 'regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll' at the command prompt.

To reverse it type 'regsvr32 zipfldr.dll'.

That's true, sad... but still funny, too -- I'm use to Windows randomly forgetting folder display settings (it seems to want to constantly sort by Size) but loosing ZIP display, well that was a first.
