When I dial-up to the internet, I can't run ANY PROGRAMS!! I can use programs that have already booted up fine, but when I try to run a program, it just gives me the hour glass for a second and then does't run the program
!!I think it's something to do with Windows Update, cos it freezes until the Update icon appears in the taskbar... This can take 30 secs-5 mins !!!Any solutions?? Acer 2.4Ghz Celeron 512mb Ram XP Home |

Disable automatic updates. Do your updates manually when it's convenient. Automatic updates with dialup can be a real headache.

You may have misunderstood me - go into control panel, automatic updates and totally disable them. Windows Security Center will complain but ignore it.

Well I really can't say as I bought this computer, copied all of my data from my old one to this one, installed all of my programs and then about a week later it started happening. It is really random as it did it yesterday, but not today...

Hmm, in this case, I will go with TimPoet and agree, you should scan for malware.
