Windows XP Firewall Says It's Off, but It's Not!

How do I rectify this? I have it turned off in the security center, but the little red shield is still in the and keeps spewing out alerts.

Thanks

Sorry, just realized I didn't tell you the OS I was running. XP w/ SP2.

What kind of alerts are you seeing? When you turn off the firewall it will warn you about problems even though it is off. This usually only happens when you do not have another firewall running, or maybe that firewall isn't recognized by Windows. It isn't blocking the threats it is just giving you the heads-up.

Also, are you running any other firewalls?

I'm running Zone Alarm, but I have it turned off. This is strange.
