High Pings and Lag

I got my new computer about 4 months ago and it's been good to me so far. I spent a good bit on it so that I would be able to play games and use multiple programs without problems. I usually play Warcraft 3 and Counter Strike Source. Recently though, I noticed my ping gets out of control for no reason.

I come home from school and play for usually 15 to 20 minutes, then I get a sudden spike of lag. However, the lag doesn't go away and it usually stays for at least 20 minutes which pretty much ruins the game that I have going on. It seem that almost every game I play now becomes worthless because I get just randomly get pings of anywhere from 300 ms to 900 ms.

I have a DSL connection which comes through my router. Every time I contact my ISP they jus tell me that everything should be fine and to check my phone filters, etc. I ran Adaware, Spybot and PC-cillin and deleted everything I possibly could. However, there are 2 viruses that PC-cillin says "Deny Access" to as the action instead of Quarenteen. When I run the PC-cillin check for viruses it says that nothing was found, yet when I check the virus logs these viruses show up multiple times for the day that I ran the scan.

My main question is what might be causing such outrageous lag on a daily basis that is ruining my gaming? But also, how might I go about deleting these viruses that PC-cillin can't delete? Since a friend of mine had a virus that made his internet connection horrible, I was wondering if that might be the case with me. I'm completely confused and I'm sorry for all my jumbled thoughts here. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need anything clarified just let me know. Thank you very much.

Your PC is wired to the router correct?? Yes those virus's could be the culprit, especially if it was not like this before. Pull up your task manager and watch the processes for a bit and see if any process is spiking the cpu usage way up.. I do like to reboot my dsl modem and router every once in a while just to keep things running smooth, probably once a month or so.

Do your virus scan in safe mode.

I checked my processes and nothing appears to using my CPU. I usually reset my modem and router monthly too.

I went into safe mode and ran Ad-Aware, Spybot and CCleaner and deleted everything I could. When I tried to open PC-cillin it said something like it could not be configured and to restart and try again. It still opens but none of the scans work. I tried restarting again in safe mode and I get the same error.

I just don't understand why these viruses aren't showing up when I scan, yet they appear in the Virus Log. Ok I just found out that through a virus scan PC-cillin doesn't find any viruses at all, but when I run Ad-Aware and Spybot they find the viruses and that's why PC-cillin doesn't do anything about them. Is there anything else I can do to try to get rid of these? Thanks again.
