i'm not a newbie but deffinately not a computer guru either. I have been having problems with a computer ever since i've made it, and i'm hoping one of you very knowledgeable people can help me figure it out.
first off... i run sr7-8x motherboard (abit) and a program called flashmenu from abit site and made sure that i had the latest bios on my mb. i run an ati 9700 pro (all in wonder) I have 2 computers networked through a linksys router, but not necessary... here's the problem. if i insall xp with no service packs... puter shuts down just fine. if i install with sp1, shuts down just find. As soon as i install sp2, it will hang on shut down. I've searched like i said for almost 2 years and tried a lot of things nothing ever seems to work. I've tried 5 different install cds... nothing ever worked. i tried downloading service packs from internent... sp2 still hangs... i let the computer update and install by it self... sp2 still hangs. in device manager, it doesn't have any devices not recognized. I've had this problem for a long time... I did install vista recently and install went great... btw, i like it, but hate all the security features... and guess what... it hangs on shut down. any suggestions will be tried and there are no stupid responses in my opinion thanks guys/gals |

i did read something else today. i reinstalled sp2 and will keep trying a few things..
here is the latest i've read. "There are a number of users who are noticing that their PC will no longer automatically power down/shut off without pressing the power off button on the computers unlike in Windows Me/95/2000. There could be a number of reasons for this - but the main one seems to be that ACPI is not enabled on the computer or in Windows XP. Here is how to try that out: 1: Click - Start - Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - Power Options Tab 2: Then click APM - Enable Advanced Power Management Support" still no go. |
