A newbie's Tip for installing XP without SP2

Hi, I thought I would just pass on a couple of lessons I learned installing XP Pro without SP2 (I bought it 2 years ago and it did not come with SP2)

1)UNPLUG YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION DURING INSTALLATION!!
I was infected with all sorts of stuff by the time I started up Windows the very first time. It was chewing up my entire CPU making doing anything impossible.

2)DOWNLOAD AND BURN SP2 BEFORE INSTALLATION
The Microsoft web site says not to do this unless you are deploying to several computers- they say you can just download it afterwards using Microsoft Update. This was not my experience. After reformatting and reinstalling XP, I quickly added antivirus and went to the Microsoft site to get SP2. The entire time it was downloading I was being bombarded with Win32backdoor, trojans, viruses etc, I was literally under attack and I consider myself lucky I was able to download it. I am sure my XP Firewall (without SP2) was on.

3)Also, disconnect all harddrives except for the one with the OS. - That I had done and thank God someone had told me to do that!!

Other than that, I love XP!!!!!!

SP2 has always been available as a download...MS will/would even send it to you on cd for free...

A much better way to do it is slipstream SP2 into the original and burn a new CD.
