Please help me recover those files.....NT Administrators!
I've lost my files saved on the desktop (logged on using an ordinary user account) after changing the user rights to guest. Is there a way to recover those files saved on the desktop?

Log on as an administrator, go to (primary drive letter):\Documents and Settings\(old username)\Desktop
They're all in there. The files aren't lost, they just don't get copied to the desktop when you log in as guest, because the guest account has no permission to copy, delete, edit, or 'do' virtually anything. Xayd |

If you are using windows nt, the information is stored in c:\winnt\profiles\(old user name)\desktop

Err, yeah forgot about that. If you upgraded from NT 4 to 2000 without a fresh reinstall they could be under WINNT as well if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the replies, but I could not find a folder named old user name in C:\winnt\profiles\.
The following are the folders visible under profiles: administrator administrator.000 administrator.bak all users default user laser laser.000 policy I am looking for the user named laser, the recent one. |

If you open up the folder named after that username, there'll be a Desktop folder underneath it, and all of your previous desktop files should be in there.
