Relocating OS
I have four HDs in my PC. Two EIDEs and two SATAs. My OS (WinXP Home) is in drive C: which is my Primary Master. I have a WD SATA Raptor 36G which is empty. I wish to transfer OS to the Raptor and use the drive exclusiively for the OS. I have the XP CD but without SP. I've heard conflicting suggestions about the best way to accomplish the task. I sifted thru all the information I've read and came up with the following approach.
1. Obtain a copy (prefer CD) of SP2. (Question: How can I get a CD copy?) 2. Unplug internet cable from PC. 3. Disconnect drive C: (Question: Can I just disable the drive in the Disk Management?) 4. Install OS to drive I: (Raptor). 5. Install SP2. After this I'm vague to what next to do. What do I do with the C: drive. Other than windows it has some other program files and folders (not much). PC won't work properly with two OS right? Can I just delete (or uninstall) Windows from the C: drive? Any assistance to the effect will be much appreciated. |

Use the Western Digital setup software (Data Lifeguard Tools) to clone the OS drive to the Raptor, then reset the bios to boot from the Raptor. Then you can reformat the old OS drive in Windows.
