Stuck on svchost.exe

Hi
My problem with my computer loading is that when it starts up the device manager shows that svchost.exe-system-99%-mem 80.048 k
it stays here for a really long time ,sometimes for more than five minutes and i cant do anything untill it drops and system idle goes to about 99%
any help appreciated

Scan for malware using standard updated antivirus and antispyware applications.
