Setting the Default Media Player in Windows Me

Does anyone know how to set the default media player program in Windows Me ?

Nero Media player seems to have set itself up automatically
(without my authorisation) as the default and so anything
media starts Nero media player.

I really want Windows Media player as my default
(and I can then select anything else I want).
I know I can use the Open With option when running a media file
to select my player BUT I still want to set the default back to
Windows Media player.

Anyone know about this ?

You need to look in the options/preferences for both programs to set default file associations.

I'll check that out. I did actually take a look at preferences but wasn't sure what
form that function would take but I can see what you are saying.
If I take say .MP3 (or whatever) file type out of the preferences/file associations list for
nero media player that may work.

There is another way but it is a pain i.e. you have to do it for every file
affected - Properties for every file has a change function so you can change and
apply a new file/program association.

If you don't sort it out within the programs, they may keep stealing the associations from each other. Media players tend to be quite rude in this fashion.
