lsass.exe and services.exe Close on Startup

lsass.exe and services.exe are automatically killed when I turn on my computer, then my screen turns black. I have booted into safe mode too, and the same exact thing happens. Does anybody know how to fix this? I'm using Windows XP Media Center Edition. The only thing I can think of is that something happened while my computer was installing updates while shutting down. It's a laptop so it wouldn't matter if it got unplugged, and the battery didn't fall out.
