Windows XP Keys

I have a number of slightly older Dell computers that were given to me and are in working condition. I want to format them all and reinstall the OS. I do not have the recovery CD's but I have the CD keys on the side of the computer. Is it possible to use an XP installation CD and then use the key on the side of the computer?

Does this link help at all?

Yes, it is possible. I've done it several times as both clean installs and repair/installs. Use an XP SP2 disk or create one by Slipstreaming SP2 to an older XP disk. If the Dell Prod key won't work when it asks for the key during the install, use the key assigned to that XP disk - DO NOT activate it with that key. Ignore the Activate prompts until the install is complete. Install all the drivers so the hardware is all properly recongnized. Then use the Magical Jelly Bean to change the Product key to the Dell product key assigned to that pc. Now you should be able to activate it just fine. You may need to phone MS if it won't activate on line.

You can use ANY Dell reinstallation CD on ANY Dell computer. It will not ask for a key and it is preactivated.
