software install

Most programs strongly suggest we close every other applications before proceeding to installation. Why is this so critical?

Hi mofo,

This is important because there are certain files that are shared by more than one program, such as .dll files. Sometimes when you install a program it will need to install a newer version of a shared file, and if you have a program running in the background that happens to use that file then it will cause a conflict and give you and error that "this file is in use" or something along those lines. Hope that helps.
