File Scavenger

Hi,
I was just wondering about something.
A few days ago my PC suddenly started saying all my files were corrupt. When I started it up, everything in the "Documents and Settings" folder was gone, but that was it. My theme had gone, and when I right clicked all I could do was create a short cut or a folder. Even more something is wrong with the recycling bin so you can't delete anything, otherwise explorer fails. Anyway, I back up everything on my PC including all the lost files onto an external hard drive using File Scavenger. I was wondering if I can reinstall Windows, but copy all my old things like every program and all documents/settings etc (everything apart from the OS) into this fresh install. Is it possible, because it is many programs, including ones from such sites as www.giveawayoftheday.com.
Thanks for all the help.

Programs all have to be reinstalled. Documents and files can simply be copied.

So would you just copy over your whole Documents and Settings folder to the new computer? Or would it just be specific files in there?

Another thing - what is a Repair install and what is a recovory install?
Thanks
