Re-use Windows XP on new build?

I have a copy of XP (upgrade disk) that i would like to use on my new PC which will replace my existing machine. Can I use the upgrade disk to install XP on the new PC?

Will I need the original Windows 98 disk to complete the install? I don't want to install 98 on the new machine. BTW the my 98 disk is an OEM that has a ton of other junk on it.

Are you still using the other computer to which XP is installed? If yes, then no you cannot reuse it.

If no, then it might be possible; I think it depends on what version of 98 you're upgrading to XP.

You will need the 98 disk to do the install, just put it in the drive when it does the compliance check.

When you start the build using the the XP disk it will tell you it can't find any other versions of windows on the computer. It will then ask you to put the 98 disk in to prove you have it. After that it will ask you to put the XP disk back in and continue.

Hope That Helps
