Windows Licence Check Problem
Hi all, first time posting, so please be gentle!!
My self build PC has performed fine for last 12 months or so until last week, when one of the HDDs packed up. I had a RAID 1 setup for the security of redundancy. I now cannot log into windows, I get the following message: A PROBLEM IS PREVENTING WINDOWS FROM ACCURATELY CHECKING THE LICENSE FOR THIS COMPUTER. ERROR CODE 0X80090019. My reason for using RAID 1 was to allow me to continue working without data loss in the event of a disk failure. So much for that plan I cannot boot into Safe Mode, when I enter UserName & password it either rejects it or brings up a Administrator login, I do not have an Administrator password set up. I have installed a new HDD, but cannot rebuild the RAID outside of the OS....Catch 22 anyone?! What i was wondering was if I left the 2nd HDD disconnected and then attempted to do a repair install & then tried to rebuild the array would this work? I am terrified of losing the data on the good disk, I have no way to back it up, weekly backup was due the day after the crash System Specs: XP Pro SP2, P4 on Ausus P5GDC Deluxe with Intel ICH6R RAID, XP was originally installed clean from CD. Thanks in advance Neil |

To rebuild the array, you probably need to get into the raid BIOS. On my older Asus board, pressing Ctrl-F gets into the RAID BIOS. Check your motherboard manual for the correct keys to enter the RAID BIOS.

What happens if you log in as Administrator in safe mode with networking and simply leave the password blank? If it goes in, try this:
1. In the registry, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents Highlight that folder and then choose and File > Export (as a precaution) then in the right pane double click OOBETimer and very carefully change just the first byte to say 00 Then COPY the two files windows\system32\wpa.dbl and wpa.bak to a different folder, and the DELETE them from the system32 folder Then get on the internet and then Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Activate Windows and use Activate on the internet now. That should only take a few seconds and windows should activate If any of that gives you any trouble put those files back, and import the registry key back again, before doing anything else. |

Pull the remaining original drive and (if it's SATA) put it in one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817362002 Install Windows and your software standalone on the new drive. Connect the external to recover your data. Then use the external for doing backups instead of depending on consumer level RAID 1. That housing comes with an OEM version of Acronis True Image and if you connect it using the eSATA adapter, it's as fast as an internal drive. |
