Dear Sirs,

I am having problems with my wife's computer and I was wandering if you could help?

When the computer is turned on (booted up) it tells me to select either F1 or F2, if I select F1 it goes to the setup screen and selecting F2 goes to a screen that tells me that there is no operating system installed? I don't know what to do now, I have tried the F8 Key with no luck and have shut the computer off and tried it again. The computer seemed to operate good before this, it just seems to have happened all of a sudden.
Can you help?

Sounds like your harddrive has gone bad. Do you have a floppy drive you can use to run harddrive diagnostics off of? When you enter the BIOS setup, does it detect the harddrive?

Make sure that a cable hasn't been dislodged or anything inside the case.

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?

How old is the computer?

Does your wife remember is something weird happened to the computer just before this problem started?

Are you comfortable working inside the computer? You may need to open it up and get some information about the hard drive for us.

F1 should take you into setup (this is where bios configurations are made).

On the first screen you should have general information. You want to look through the different screens (accomplished by using the backward, forward, up and down arrows) to see if the hard drive is seen in the BIOS. This should be under boot or advanced BIOS features.

If the drive is not seen in BIOS, it is likely a failed hard drive.

SueJoe, it would be helpful if instead of putting your name in the title that you put what your problem is.
