Windows XP reboot and scandisk
After I restart my PC, it doesn't run a scandisk job. I have been informed that it is very recommended that the system should automatically run a scandisk after rebooting. How can I do this? BTW, I am just a newbie here.

it should only run scandisk after a bad shutdown (power failure, etc). And this also depends on the version of windows you are using. Which version are you using?

You can run scandisk at any time for peace of mind if you like by doing the following:
Start>Run>cmd>chkdsk or you can see options of the scandisk utility by doing the following: Start>Run>cmd>chkdsk /? Good Luck! |

If you're using NTFS as your filesystem, you dont need as many disk scans as used to be the case with FAT and FAT32. As surfmaster mentioned an auto scandisk only pops up in case of a bad shutdown... the drive is marked as dirty.
If you want to verify if a volume is scheduled for a disk check you can open a CLI and run chkntfs c: (for the C drive, for example) to see the status of your drive. You can also manually schedule a disk check on the next reboot by doing chkntfs /c C: |

On an unrelated subject, you really should install SP2.

Thanks for the information guys!
Can I ask you guys one more question? I have a folder that I can't delete, from a user profile. How can I delete this? This user profile has an administrator access before, and when I deleted this profile, I can't delete the folder associated to it. It's in the Documents and Settings folder. I'm really a newbie in this. Thanks in advance! ejq29 |
