What software is best at copying the HDD
I am planning on upgrading my hdd. I have always used seagate drives and the software that comes with it to copy everything in the old hdd to the new hdd. The problem is that everytime I've upgarded the hdd Windows system restore doesn't work anymore and some of the games don't work right on the new hdd. So I have to reinstall some of the software again. So what software makes an exact copy of the old hdd without my having to fiddle with it afterwards to get it to work right, thanks.

With Norton Ghost or Acronis you could make an image of the hard drive. Personal opinion is that if you are getting a new hard drive your old one is probably a couple of years old so it might not be a bad idea to just reinstall everything and move your data over.

Ghost Question
Mariving, I have an oem of Ghost 5.1 never used and came across your post referring to its utility at a time when I am considering going from a dualboot win98se/slackware to a dualboot winxp/slackware. Have win98se on segate 120gb hdd and slackware on maxtor 15 or 40gb hdd.
What I want to backup are bookmarks, network settings, hardware application and settings, dual boot setup, that is a dos startup menu. Maybe I can just add XP as a 3rd OS sharing the 120gb hdd w/win98se? Basically, I just want to use windows for photo and layout storage, web page testing, and main internet connection for my apple laptop. Can you help? |
