Exclamation XP problem

i recently put a copy of xp on an old laptop and for the first few days it worked fine everything was running quickly until today i thought it was an over heating problem because it computer would flash a blue screen and then turn off but today the blue screen stayed on long enough for me to read it and it said to restart the computer and run a disk check but i couldn't get to the desktop does anyone know what these mean?

when the computer boots there is a big screen that says DELL then the screen that says the type of cd-rom drive there is then it goes black for a few seconds then this screen comes up i cant get to the desk top anyone know what to do?

This info applies to a Sony latop but if you have the same chipset and onboard sound that may well be the same problem.

Here's another possibility. You really should upgrade to SP2 also. It's not just a security package but also several fixes to XP. There are about 55 additional updates after that at Windows Update.

Is it possible that copy of XP is tied to a Dell? Just a thought.
