Xp OEM question
Hey all,
i have an Hp machine which for some reason windows wouldnt boot at all and i lost the recovery disk But the product key for the windows Xp hme edition Sp2 OEM is on the side of the machine. My friend has a Windows Xp Home edition Sp2 OEM disk and said i could borrow it and re-instal windows using the product key off the side of my system. Is this true?Plus legal? Thanks |

Yes, you can do that. If his CD won't accept your Prod Key, use his TEMPORARILY to complete the installation but DON'T ACTIVATE it with that product key. Instead, use the Magical Jelly Bean to change the Product to the one on the case. Then activate it. You may have to call MS rather than activate it online.
