I'm confused
Well after using Windows 2000 for 7 years, I've decided to pick up XP Home Edition. Most of the features I've read about that are contained in XP Pro I really don't need, since I live by myself and merely use my computer for surfing, some spreadsheets, checking mail and stuff like that.
One question I have concerns installing software. On Microsoft's website where they list a side by side comparison of the features of XP Pro and XP Home, after they list the "Software Installation and Maintenance" feature, they go on to say..."automatically install, configure, repair, or remove software applications." Then under Home they show a little circle which is not filled in meaning that feature is not present in the Home Edition, whereas it would be present in the Pro Edition. Well guys, does this mean I can't install software on my computer with XP Home? Or am I misunderstanding something here? |

No that's BS. Install XP, home or pro. You won't be sorry.
Most of the drivers for hardware devices are already present in XP, especially if you are using and older computer on which to install it. You will likely end up with a clean install and no drivers to install. Very uncommon to find the situation where you have to search for drivers a-la WIN 98 or ME. -Kev

Just backing up kev7555's post. I have both Pro & Home and have not had a problem with either version. You should be happy with Home.

Sounds good then. Thanks. As soon as I get a bit more RAM installed, I'm gonna go for it.
