Cannot play CD on winxp

On my dads computer, hes trying to listen to a cd and cant play it. Ive tried using both Windows media player 9 and 11, and realplayer. Neither will play the cd (any cd, these are store bought cds too).

Real player just doesnt acknowledge that there is even a cd in the drive. Win media player says something like "cannot find the specific file" as is scrolls down the list of cda files off the cd.

Ive rebooted the comp, tried safe mode, and did websearches and used microsoft support site, and nothing. I dont know what else to do.

Download VLC player and give it a try, if that does not play it you most likely have drive problems.
