Accidentally istalled XP on wrong drive.
Hi all, recently I noticed my computer acting really weird and I decided it was time to reinstall a fresh operating system (windows XP home). I have done this previously with no problems. this time however when rebooting after the install I get "Please select the operating system to start" and both choices listed are windows xp home edition.
Currently I can look at the folders in the C: drive but D: gives a warning message when trying to view the file structure. I think I accidentally installed the newest version on D: because that was the default when th prompt appeared. Could someone please advise as to the easiest way to resolve this problem. Thanks for any suggestions or advice. |

If you are not using the old OS, delete it from the drive or, reinstall and choose to delete all partitions before formatting and installing.

XP installed on wrong drive
OK, thanks for your help. I will use the Windows XP installlation program to delete all partitions on the C: drive and hopefully that will resolve the issue.
After I delete the partitions on the C: drive do I need to reformat the C: drive to get rid of whatever was causing the computer to act erratically before the reinstall? Will I need to get into the BIOS to hve the computer to look for the new operating system on the D: drive? Thanks again. |

Delete the partition, when you go to install Windows on C: it will ask you to format. Do you have 2 partitions (c: and d: ) on one HDD? Or is it two HDD's?
If its 2 partitions, when you delete both C: will be ONE drive. If its two HDD's and delete the partitions on both C: and D: and install on C:, D: wont be formatted. After windows is installed you can just find the drive in windows and format D:. |
