User Profile Corrupted...seen this?
Had a desktop unit in for repair yesterday running Windows 2000 Pro. At boot up it displayed a window that the User Profile was corrupted and could not be loaded. A second window said a temporary profile would be created but all features of that profile would be lost when the system was rebooted. I did the ususal google and MS KB searches and nothing I found seemed pertinent or helped correct the problem The old user profile info was all still intact in a folder called Owner.bak in the Documents and Settings folder. I copied all that info and resorted to a Repair Install. I then transferred the .bak info to the new Owner file. (the .bak file was still intact after the repair). Ran all the Windows Updates and checked all the programs and now everything seems to be corrected.
My question (I know it's dumb to ask after the fact!) is whether any of you have ever encountered this type of problem before. And if you did, how did you fix it? |

I have seen it on both XP and 2K. It's pretty rare. Most of the time you don't get a message saying that it is corrupted though. I had one where a user couldn't see any icons and/or files that she had on her desktop. If you went to the desktop through Documents and Settings you could see the files. So I just copied the files, deleted her profile and copied them back and that fixed it.
