e-Machine

I have a friends e-Machine that I can't get passed the first screen with a huge "e"on it. At the bottom is also press F10 for Boot and F2 for BIOS. It doesn't respond to any thing. It is XP with 512 memory, an AMD processor and that is all I know as far as inside. She told me she was having boot problems.

I know it is ver little information, but I can't even get passed the first screen.

Thank you

Did this computer come with a recovery disk, or a recovery partition?

If there is no disk you may want to try a repair install with another XP disk.

Sounds like you are not getting past POST, so repair or re-install will do no good.

1) Do you hear beeps on powerup, or through the boot process? If so how many?
2) Does it have more than one memory dimm? if so try to boot with only one, but be sure to try both individually to see if it will boot.
3) Are you using on board graphics, or secondary graphics card?
4) Be sure all memory is seated, check to make sure all PCI cards are fully seated, try to boot
5) Remove all expansion cards and try to boot.

Let us know what happens when you try this.

Good Luck
