Trouble Installing Active Virus Shield (I think group policy editor is needed?)
I've reformatted my computer, installed windows, and finally have all my drivers working and everything seems peachy. Now I'm trying to get my spy-ware and virus protection up and running. So, I have Spybot and Ad-aware SE installed, my usual partners in crime to get rid of spyware, and for virus-scanning I wanted to use the Active Virus Shield from AOL since I've heard good things about it. So, I went into safe mode and logged in as the Administrator since I figured Safe Mode is a good place to scan for viruses, but I received the following error when I tried to install it.
"The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." I googled this quote and came up with alot of sites, but it all seems very confusing to me. The one thing some of them had in common is Group Policy Editor. I honestly don't know how it works, but I was hoping someone could try and guide me through it a little. I did take a look around inside of it, but I couldn't find anything that seemed to pertain to permissions with installing software. |

Looks like you need to be an AOL isp user with an AOL e-mail account.
For anti-virus just download AVG.

That shouldn't be the case. I've looked into it before, and its open to anyone. You give them your e-mail and they send you an activation code which I did prior to reformatting. I had it installed then, but for some reason it won't install now.
Edit: I just checked to see if I can install it as a regular user and I can o.O I wonder why I can't as the Administrator. |

You don't really want to mess with Group Policy particularly with local policy. Changes made to GP can make your system inoperable and you would have to reinstall Windows.
Most likely the program won't run in Safe mode. You can reset GP by following this KB Article: How to reset security settings back to the defaults
