Boot problem help please

So every now and then I get a black screen that says: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

If I press a key it just gives me the same message, ctrl+alt+del will give me my bios but then I think I might mess something up going in there. So now I just turn off the computer and turn it back on. This happen rarely and never when I am actaully on the computer.

Oh and when I went into bios and then back out in green writing it would say ODDO: Pioneer dvd what ever which is my IDE dvd drive. In bios it also said it didn't see any SATA drives and I have one HDD which it sees normally and now.
Does this have anything to do with the 965chipset that I have read problems about?

I am running Windows XP and specs should be in my signature.
Thank you

Is this when you're powering up the computer or does this happen while the computer is in use?

Ctrl, Alt, Del takes you to the BIOS?

The 965 chipset doesn't have native IDE support...IDE is handled by a third party controller (JMicron) and it's this controller that you've heard problems about. You could try to see if there is an updated driver for the JMicron controller...might help with this problem.

Or you could replace the IDE optical drive with a SATA optical drive.

So to answer your questions: This happens while my computer is on and running, From this black screen ctrl+alt+del takes me to bios, and I would rather not get a SATA drive cause this is a brand new PC that you'all helped me build so the DVD drive is brand new and works like a charm.
Thanks, oh and I'll try to check for a firmware update.

It happens while the computer is running? Just randomly or are you using a specific program?

What kind of background programs are you using? Anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, etc...

What kind of burning software are you using and is there a icon for it in the systray (next to the clock)?

I am never around when it happens so usually nothing is running except for maybe some minimalized Word doc. or maybe Firefox. I know it has happened with nothing opened. I keep my computer running all the time cause I am Folding@Home (its done this before I started folding).

I use Nero 6&7 to burn and they are not on the taskbar. Nothing is except folding and the Nvidia setting.

Firewall is just windows, I think I am using Symantec anti-virus

Thanks
