XP Professional installation problem

I just built my new computer and received this error when I was installing windows:

Error:
Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message: The parameter is incorrect.

***

Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

The parameter is incorrect.

Would this be a problem with my installation disc or my hardware?

It could be xp disc or cd burner. Try a friends' xp pro disc also make sure all connections are secure on your new build.

Also be sure that your CDROM is your FIRST BOOT DEVICE.
