booting from disk

Hello, I want to format my hard-drive, but when I set the primary boot device to CD-ROM in my bios settings, and restart, I get the message "Press any key to boot from disk" and when I do press any key nothing happens and the computer continues to start-up from the hard-drive after displaying a few dots. (I have inserted the windows disk in to the drive). Could this be a problem with the layout of my IDE cables or anything related to that?
Thanks in advance..

Is this a copied disk or the original? Make sure that the disk isn't dirty etc. As an alternative, you could get the boot disks from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994

Yeah this is an original disk and from what I can see is pretty clean with no scratches, so it definately could not be the layout of the IDE cables? as they were changed recently...

Just quick thought, are you using a USB keyboard?. If you are try using a PS2 keyboard and it should work fine.

Hope that helps

When you get the "press any key to boot from disk", don't press any key. It will sit for a few seconds then will go to the first boot device which should be the CD drive.
