Shutting off unneeded background processes.

Besides the resource hogging anti-virus apps.,what Windows XP processes are best to just shut down to gain better performance and how do you do it? What adjustments do you have to make for maintenance?

I used tht Safe list with no problems.

Two other programs-What's Running & autoruns. I clean out litter with ATF Cleaner except prefech & cookies Les
