ntoskrnl.exe

I was playing WoW on my computer when it randomly shut itself off. When trying to boot up it gave me an error saying:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I get this same message every time I restart my computer and it wont let me get on. I tried putting in my Windows XP cd to see if i could fix it with that but when I boot from my Windows CD, Windows setup gives me the error:

File \AMD64\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded.
The error code is 4.
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.

The makeup of my computer is:

AMD athlon 64 x2 4400+
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe Socket 939
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200KS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
EVGA 512-P2-N635-AR GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

Any help fixing the problem would be appreciated.

After doing some Googling, most of the stuff I find with that error say most likely a bad stick of RAM. Might try one stick at a time (if you have more than one stick installed) to see if one's bad, or if you've only got one stick you can always test it with a program like Memtest86+. If you're overclocking, try turning down your memory speeds first to see if that helps too.

I took out one stick of RAM and i dont get any errors anymore and Windows starts, but when i get to the screen where I select a user and sign on, the keyboard and the mouse wont work. They work before i get to this screen such as when im in the BIOS but they just stop working when i get to that screen. I have tried using several different USB mice and even tried using an adapter to plug it into the green slot that is meant only for mice.

Just curious, but are you mixing and matching 32-bit and 64-bit software / drivers? It may be your issue. Is your WoW compatible with a 64-bit OS?

I have been running Wow and other 32 bit games for about a year now with no problems, so im assuming it is compatible with the 64 bit OS

Ok i grabbed an old ps/2 keyboard from an old computer and plugged it in and it worked, after logging in it told me that i needed to reactivate windows due to massive changes in the hardware (aka taking a stick of ram out). I reactivated Windows and it all works fine now. From looking at people with similer problems it seems to happen when ur computer isnt registared since i saw a few posts on your forums where they got the same problem from using pirated software (and no mine isnt pirated). Thanks for all your help.
