Multiple file transfer with rename

Hello everyone,

I have a friend who wants to move a good number of CD and Floppy files to his new external hard-drive. The problem is that the file names are the same from disk to disk (ie CD1 has "jan1, feb1, etc and CD2 has jan1, feb1, etc so each disk represents a year and each file represents a month/day).

Normally, I would recommend to him that having a folder for each of the disks would prevent the files from being overwritten by the next disk. However, he would really prefer to have the months/days grouped together in folders rather than by year. To do this he would need to rename each file before or during its move into the new drive.

Is there a method or program that can do this multiple file rename easily (ie jan1_2000, jan1_2001, etc)?

One simple way would be to make directories on the hard drive with unique names, such as CD1, CD2, and so on it and put the respective files under those directories.

I suggest Bulk Renamer. Google bulk renamer and you will quickly find it. It's the most complete and efficient tool I've ever encountered to do such a job. Be carefull though: bulk numbering jobs follow the order in which they are in the folder... So if its just to ad a month to already numbered ones fine no danger. But always double check the preview pane to be sure it will do what you want. My friend screwed up alot of files when I told him about this one.. :P

Good luck!
