splat this will put you experts to the test

I got a problem with my pc, my pc just turned itself off, then would not load up whatsoever past the first bit of writing that comes up, so i used windows disk to try and repair, that didnt work, i tried it again and formatted pc, that didnt work, however now i got it to work but with a small problem, when i turn on pc i have to press f8 to select the manual boot priority so that it will load, otherwise it just comes up as disk boot failure or something, (you can change this in the bios i hear you say) well i press del to enter bios so that i can change this, but when i do the pc just shuts down, what the heck is wrong with it and is it possible to fix other than keep pressing f8 or getting a new pc.

please if anyone can help send me an email on superman@bulldoghome.com

hello,

you may try to reset bios manually (check the mobo or user manual on its location), it is either a switch or a jumper where you momentarily short it. Another is you try removing internal pc battery and check its voltage, or have it replaced by a newer one. Removing the batt. also helps reset your bios. it might help. If it does work, go to bios settings change boot priority to your active HDD. hope this helps

If you have the ability to press F8 you don't have a boot priority problem. Pressing F8 will bring up the Windows boot screen which only gives you option of ways to boot Widows not what physical device your hardware is booting to. Post the problem in a more descriptive way. What exactly does it do after you press the power button. This will help you get better help.

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?

What are the complete system specs for this computer? List the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Do you have spare parts you can swap in to test with?

First thing I would try is replace the data cable to the main hard drive.

Question answers to all.

yoloksky:- I have removed the stated jumper which reset clock and everything, but still not the bios, nothing changed there, i have removed battery and that done nothing either, i have not tried to replace as yet, that may be next.

Lespaul20:- after pressing power button, all the usual writing comes up then before the windows screen comes up with the scrolling bar an error saying disk system failure or something, im not brilliant at pc's sorry, if i reboot sometimes chip fan fail or too slow comes up, so i leave it 5 mins load up then press f8 the boot screen comes up, i select the c drive, then it loads fine.

Cricket:- my friend built pc.

I wanted to know what motherboard you got in there (brand and model) and the brand of the power supply.

Try opening up the computer and check that the data and power cables to the hard drives are installed securely.

If the problem persists you may want to replace the data cables to the hard drives (IDE or SATA...whichever you have.

Please try to find out the brand of the power supply. Cheap low quality power supplies can create all sorts of weird problems when they're starting to fail.

Please try to find out the brand and model of the motherboard too. Visually inspect the capacitors on the motherboard to see if they are leaking or bulging.

i dont know what motherboard or power supply it has, not sure where to look, all i can tell you is that the mother board is an ASUS and the power supply was 500w everything worked ok until i plugged my mobile phone charger into the extension, which is a £150 monster extension so that should not be the problem
