Registry cleaner needed...

Is there a good free registry program out there that someone can recommend? The registry on my computer needs to be cleaned up.

The eusing free registry cleaner above is also good alongside CCleaner.

I also recommend CCleaner. Also try Tweaknow RegCleaner. You can just go to majorgeeks.com. Click on Registry and you can choose from the registry cleaners listed.

Be sure to make a backup of the Registry before you run any Registry cleaner...just in case.

What type problems could you encounter when cleaning the registry? How would you recover?

The registry is where Windows indexes the configurations for everything on the system. So naturally if something from the registry is removed that should not have been, programs will fail to work correctly or settings may be undone. The easiest way to recover is to have a backup registry and just replace the messed up registry with the earlier version.

If you fireup 'regedit' in the Run menu, use the Import and Export commands to make a backup and replace it.

Ive heard stories of people removing keys that caused problems with ccleaner but I never back up my registry and run ccleaner nearly everyday. Never had a problem.

It should be noted however, that I run very stripped-down computers, no extra BS.
