Bootup problem

Hi everyone,

I’ve got a problem with a pc and I’d love to get an answer, anyway here is the problem:

When I load up the pc, windows won’t load up, I pressed F8 and got the command list, I tried safe mode and last good configuration, it looked like it’s going to startup but then it restarts the pc.

When I’m trying to start windows normally I get this message which is followed by bunch of errors (*.sys files):

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)

I’m using windows XP pro edition, as far as I know the problem is caused by the motherboard, I’m using a Intel motherboard (2 years old), and 2 hard disks (sata), the computer worked fine until today, a similar problem occurred a few months ago it was fixed after changing something in the bios configuration (I didn’t fixed it back then).

I entered into the bios setup and saw that the hard disk has an auto standard but there is a message which says “not detected”

I would love to get an answer,

Thanks in advance.

Could you be more specific when giving your computer specs (e.g. mobo make/model, cpu, name/names of hdd, ram, etc.). Reading the part about you entering the BIOS and the hdd is not being detected that seems to be your problem. Make sure IDE controllers are enabled in the BIOS. Have you reconfigured your drive/drives lately? Are they plugged it securely? Are you getting power to the rest of your peripherals? Could be pws problem.

BTW, please note the error message you are receiving. I know the screen flashes quickly, if you hold pause key on key board you will be able to freeze screen in order to read error message.

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?

What are the complete system specs? Please list the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Did you check to see if the SATA cables to the hard drives are secure? Some SATA data cables have lousy connectors that come loose from the hard drive or motherboard.

Along with Cricket's questions:

Did the hard drive give you any trouble beforehand? It may have be an indication of imminent failure.
