I personally use the 'down them all' firefox extension - which is more a download 'manager' than accelerator. Its most useful function is probably the ability to pause and resume - but this depends on the server supporting it.

Never used an accelerator even in the dialup days. Download resumers were another story, however. Although browsers have that build-in nowadays anyway.

hello,
i envy you guys having high speed internet, i still use download 'optimizer', but not 'accelerator'. Its called tcp optimizer -> http://www.speedguide.net, it sure speeds up my dial up approx ~10percent. My crappy dsl charges me an extortionate rate... so bye bye they go.here is another one (sorry i don't know if this is already posted here) Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth, set it to zero (where in reality 20% is allocated for xp use hehe) try it and you'll see xp pop-ups telling you not to do so. if you did both, you'll see some positive changes. wbr, |

No need unless one is still limited to land-line and modem use.
If you can get a cell phone signal, check out the cell-band modems. Much faster than dial-up. When I test my new system, it is uber fast... I can upload at 6465 Kb/sec and download at 923 Kb/sec. ![]() Average in N. America is 4224/814. I used this: http://www.speedtest.net/ And, have seen similar results with other tests. Me like...
