hello,
do you have antivirus and firewall running? did you install or run anything right before the problem occured? System restore in xp might help (go into safemode and load last known working config.), i remember encountering this problem when computer is turned off accidentally and some files got corrupted. Also you can try to update xp home using xp sp2, and hopefully fix the svchost.exe wbr, |

AVG and windows firewall are running. The computer is behind a hardware firewall with the router. Nothing was installed prior to the error.
Also the Ram was semi tested. i had my wife take out the ram and put in one stick at a time. Still had the same error. I cannot explain properly to her how to run memtest86, so it could still be the RAM. Unfortunately I cannot get her into anysoftware to run a spyware sweep. Finally she is running XP Home SP2 |

1. Start the computer in Safe Mode.
2. Disable Automatic Updates. 3. Restart The System. 4. Perform Manual Windows Update. 5. Reenable Automatic Update. |

Will disableing automatic updates get rid of that error? I only ask this because if it won't then she still won't be able to update because that error message will lock up the system preventing the update.

Take a look at this thread, Jester.
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=180486 This is the most recent issue I found with WU. There's a patch listed but I never got bsod/error, only a 100% cpu load and an extremely slow pc. |

The SVCHOST.EXE Error at startup is normally caused my Microsoft Updates (WU with MS Office Updates). I had customers having a lot of problems regarding this and some of them can be solved by disabling Automatic Updates temporarily. If not you can post back so that we can help you.
