My laptop screen seems to be stretching

My laptop screen it seems to stretch everything out I see on the screen, like my icons and everything, how do I fix this? This is a window xp pro edition.

Is this laptop with a widescreen LCD? Did you just reinstall the OS? If its a WXGA LCD if you dont set it to a Widescreen Resolution (e.g. 1280 X 800) it will really look stretched. You should set it to its Optimal Resolution. If you just reinstalled your OS you need to install your Display Drivers
