Media Center

I keep hearing a re-ocurring theme here about Media Center Edition and it's instability problems. The only time I have ever experienced this was when trying to run Pro Tools on MCE, which I learned Pro Tools is not designed to do.

Can anyone fill me in on other instability issues? I have MCE running on three machines here that have never had any such issues.

Thanks,

-Kev

I've *heard* that either Dell or HP stop making MCE systems due to too many problems. I can't remember the magazine I read it in but I'll see if I can figure it out and double check....

I've also been curious about those comments, as they were added to a post yesterday of mine. I've been trying to decide what O/S to use in my first build. I have XP Home but it's from a Dell pc and I've been told you can't transfer it from the Dell BIOS. Since I have to buy a new O/S, I've been trying to decide to do another Home ed. or go to the MCE. Aside from possible instability issues which I can't verify, what is it that would make me want MCE over Home? (features, etc...) Thanks for your helping my curiousity!

Maximum PC has a very short (smaller than a quarter page) article about it, but with no real details. It's the June 07 issue. The title of the article is:

Quote:
HP pulls plug on a Media Center PCs
The article states:

Quote:
While HP computers that come with Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate Edition will naturally still feature MCE, HP is pushing its own solution for entertainment functions. HP's line of media smart TVs come bundled with software for media playback and Internet streaming, rendering a PC in the living room unnecessary.
There's not much more to the article then that.

My Dell E1505 came with MCE and it hasn't given me any trouble at all. Plus a friend has installed MCE on his home theater system and raves about the ease of use. He too hasn't experienced any issues. Since the MCE features are built into some Vista offerings, the XP version has no doubt lost some popularity.
