Outlook Express emails gone

So I wake up this morning, go to check my email, and everything is GONE. I even have a "Welcome to Outlook Express!" email waiting for me. Thankfully, and ironically, I just did a back up last night, so I was able to restore the emails. Now, none of my settings or accounts seem to have been deleted, only my emails, because the first thing it did when I opened was check for new email on all my accounts like usual.

I'm running a full virus scan as I type this. But does anyone have a similar experience or know what could have been the problem? About 10 minutes or so after I discovered the emails were gone, McAfee had a notice pop up for me twice (even though I selected to delete it the first time) that something called CasOnline.dll was trying to open itself up as explorer.exe. It said it was coming though a program folder, so I removed that program from my computer. Could that have been it? Or could it have something to do with me accessing the stored emails folder last night to back them up (although that seems unlikely), or that I had a ton of emails saved? It's all very odd.

I'm just really scared it might happen again, or that someone was able to get into all my emails

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Any chance that they auto archived? Sometimes there is a pop up message that asks if you would like to auto archive your files. It is possible that you inadvertently said yes.

More likely your profile got corrupted than a virus/spyware.
