When I use the "run" command my dos screen flashes and disappears. I can bring up the actual "dos prompt" and it will work fine. Just not from the "run" box?

What are you executing on your RUN command. If you use the RUN box to execute a program that uses the Command Line interface it is designed to close the CLI after execution is complete. For example if you use the command ping www.yahoo.com from the RUN box, then by design the CLI will close after it finishes the ping.
If you specifically want to see the CLI then you need to use the RUN command cmd |

Try opening the command box by typing:
cmd in the run box. Then type in the ipconfig commands. Quit by typing: Exit followed by the Enter key. |
