Need legitcheck.hta ??

This file has shown up on mom-in-law's desktop. It appears to have something to do with verifying Windows, maybe? I've not turned up much on it in searching for info. Anyone have any experience with?

Thx.

Thanks, mick...

I actually ran that search and read through the better part of the first twenty hits or so. Mostly, they consist of people complaining about M$ requiring them to download that file to run on their comps. I could find nothing much searching through the M$ site, other than those few forum hits.

My question deals with the fact that the file has actually been placed on the desktop somehow... I'm curious about if that's happened in anyone's experience. Also, is validation it's only job?

Apparently it is. However, I don't open any applications that suddenly appear on my desktop.

Come to think of it, I've never had a new application "just appear" on my desktop. There are certain updates that require validation before you can proceed manually on the Windows Update website. I don't know if it is the same for simply allowing the PC to accept automatic updates...

That's what I'm screamin'. Mom-in-law said it just appeared (there were actually two of the same - the orig and a copy), but who knows... I'm pretty sure I validated Windows when I set things up after purchase. So there's my confusion.

The only thing that keeps me from just deleting it is that I read on some forum somewhere that it's hard to get back...
