XP Setup Problem

I succeeded in assembling my new machine...started it up, went into CMOS and the BIOS and poked around, set my boot order to CD first, HDD 2nd, network 3rd (no floppy available), popped in my WinXP cd and rebooted. It went through, asked me to create a partition and all that, and then got to the graphics screen (with "Collecting Information", "Dynamic Update", etc. along the left-hand side). It worked on that for a few minutes before telling me that the file "D:\I386\NT5INF.CAT" catalog file could not be found. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it to take, so I hit cancel and restarted the install. I got a little bit farther this time but then was given the same error message for file "ASMS". I'm pretty much just stuck in this continuous loop right now as I keep rebooting and getting right back to that screen. Should I just restart setup, and if so, how? Any other tips or suggestions? Don't have an available copy of another OS to try, and until I get XP installed I don't have an OS on the machine in question (writing this on my laptop). Sorry for the long-windedness, and thanks for the help.

Do you have another optical drive you can try?

How about another IDE or SATA cable for the HDD and optical drive?

If you have more that one stick of memory... try leaving only one stick in at a time.

Is your WinXP CD genuine or a burned copy?

Please list the specs of this computer. List the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Did you fully assemble the computer or do you only have the necessary components assembled for the OS installation?
