Unhappy Wont boot into Windows XP

Hi, may have had to post a new thread, but couldnt see how to do that!
I am not brilliant with computers, but am trying to sort out a problem for my Father as he is even more useless with them!!

The desktop was built for him, custom made and it works fine, but a few days ago it would not boot up into Windows.

It starts up BIOS as normal, then gives me option to choose either F2 for BIOS utility setup or F11 which takes me to where it goes next anyway. It jumps straight to a screen igving me options to choose either:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompts
Last know Config
Start Windows Normally

I have chosen the latter 2, and it takes me to the screen with the Windows XP logo, but then for a split second, the screen goes blue with lots of white writing (cant read it or pause it as it goes too quickly) and then it goes back to restarting itself again. Safe Mode options just trail up a huge list of things and then restarts again! So i dont know what to do, it just does this over and over again!!

i cant find his XP starup disc, but probably wouldnt know how to use it anyway!!

Any help please?!!!!!!!

I have searched so many forums and cant find a solotion anywhere.

Won't even boot into Safe Mode? I would try replacing the data cable going to the main hard drive.

Find out the brand of the hard drive and go to the manufacturer's web site and download the diagnostic utility to test the hard drive with. It may have developed bad clusters/sectors.

If the computer has more than 1 stick of RAM you might want to pull one and then see if the computer will boot up. If the computer does, the other stick may be defective.

If you aren't comfortable working inside the computer you may want to take it to a computer repair shop.

Ok thanks. I have managed to get access to the Windows setup page, usng F8, and can now read the blue screen. It tells me to remove any newly installed hardware or controllers, check hard drive and then run CHKDSK/F (whateve that is!!) to check for corruption.

Any ideas how to do this?

I dont know how to check hard drive or whatever without being able to get onto Windows.

CRASH Fixed it, yay!

After a little bit of googling, I came across a Microsoft support page related to what I had:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=297185
After checking my BIOS settings, I made sure the problem wasn't that it was trying to force, but that there was a problem with the disk. After some searching around in my basement for a little while, I finally came upon a copy of XP. Popped it in, opened recovery console, then
chkdsk /r
It took a while (not sure how long exactly as I fell asleep waiting...) but when I rebooted Windows I was all set. Hope this helps!
