Ok, I tried to reinstall windows xp pro after a registry problem on my laptop and all I get is an error message "Error loading operating system"
If I boot from the CD to try again it goes thru all the procedures until it comes to the "setup starting Windows" screen, then it shuts down. I also got a dialog box one time that says, "fake file initiates itself instead of setup.exe" Is there any way that I can clean the boot sector or registry or bios or any thing that may help me to get started again? Thanks.

Sorry bout the late reply. I got it sorted out using the Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) v4.11 I just decided to clean and reformat the entire drive. Nothing lost because I had everything backed up on another drive.
Thanks for the reply anyway, and YES my XP is genuine media. Thanks again. |
