Very Slow

i CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!! MY PACKARD BELL NOTEBOOK Intel Celeron 1.8GHz, 192MB RAM, 40GB HDD has become so slow. I slowed down so much that I had to format it and when I try to install OFFICE 2003 it's taking ages. What could be the problem?

Bad clusters/sectors on the hard drive would cause a slowdown like that.

What OS? 192mb is not enough for XP and is marginal for 2K.

Determine the brand of hard drive and download the free diagnostics from the manufacturer. If it's a Toshiba drive or you cannot determine the brand, the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test can do basic testing of any brand drive.

That is the problem. If you have XP & Norton, 1GB memory is needed in my opinion. On my mom's PC I had to remove Norton suite with Symantic Removal Tool to get it to run faster. AVG or Avast are good free AVs.

Symantec Corporate and Norton are 2 totally different animals. However, the RAM recommendation still stands. 192mb is way too light for XP to run well. Have you tested the hard drive yet?
