Windows doesn't pick up hard drive

I'm trying to add another hard drive to my computer.
The thing is, BIOS recognizes the hard drive, but Windows XP doesn't. I've tried to the get windows to recognize through the drive though the "disk management" but its just not picking it up at all.

Any suggestions?

Is it SATA or IDE?? That's odd... usually if the BIOS recognizes the drive, WinXP will pick it up with no problems. For IDE drives, make 100% sure you have the correct jumper settings.

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?

What are the complete system specs?

What type of hard drive are you trying to install?

What brand is it?

Are you sure you plugged in both cables (data and power) securely?

Disk Management doesn't even show the new hard drive?

Try setting the jumper on the HD to CS(cable select). Sounds like you have an 80 wire IDE cable which you set the jumpers on drives to CS. The black connector on the end is the Master position and the gray in the middle is the Slave position.

Let me get this straight, your saying the jumper on the slave drive should be put in CS position? becuase I did that and it still doesn't show up under disc mangement.

If you are using 80 wire Ultra ATA cables, BOTH drives on the cable should be jumpered to CS. Master and slave are determined on these cables by the way they are wired.

May be there is something wrong with the data cable and power cable, but if he is able to see the HDD in BIOS then it means the Power and data cable is properly plugged in the HDD.

Can there be a problem because of different HDD? Has he installed Win in SCSI HDD and the other HDD that he has connected to his computer is IDE?

Can there be a problem of recognition between SCSI and IDE Hard Drives?

Regards,

No, the data cable could still have a problem with it even though the BIOS "sees" the hard drive.

SCSI HDD? What SCSI HDD? I didn't see one mentioned. But no, if the computer is configured properly he could use different types of hard drives in the same computer.

It's possible, but like I said...if the computer is set up properly it shouldn't matter if he's using different types of hard drives.
