Unhappy help slow boot

I jst reinstalled windows xp on my computer it is a intel P4 and a 2.4 ghz
I installed 2 gig ram. The XP was pack1 so I upgraded to service pack 2 and did all the patches.
I also installed spy-sweep and tech virus protection.
windows boots but when I try to run a program it takes minutes and a reboot takes about 20 minutes.
Can anyone help?
I heard that I may need to reload the drivers, is that true or how can I tell what would be bogging the system down?
I did a control/alt/delete and there are no programs running that it shows.
help please.

After you installed XP, did you install the chipset and video drivers?

I only reinstalled the windows XP disk and the service pack2 disk.
Where would I get the chipset and video drivers from?
Since I did not change the mother board do I need to reinstall these drivers?

THANKS FOR YOUR QUICK RESPONCE

Yes, you have to reinstall all necessary device drivers unless they already were part of WinXP's driver data base. Check Device Manager and anything with a yellow exclamation mark needs attention (the driver probably needs to be installed).

The motherboard CD will have the chipset and on-board device drivers. The video drivers are on the CD that came with the video card. Or you can go to the manufacturer's web site and download the latest device drivers.

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?

Regardless of whether SP2 was installed or not, you still need to install your device drivers. Not only that, you might be missing other device drivers (such as your video card if you have one). Software tools like SIW (System Information for Windows) can give you a detailed list of all the hardware installed in your PC. There are plenty of such utilities available off the internet if you google for it.

P.S. You get the chipset driver from your motherboard manufacturer (or their website).

Thanks everyone for all your help
Loading the drivers took care of the problem.
This is a great site, I only wish I checked here before doing my upgrade.
